RevitalIce® FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions About the RevitalIce® Ice Therapy System
Try to limit exposure to 20 minutes or less in order to avoid tissue damage although we regularly see people applying it for 30 minutes depending on the tolerance of the individual and the body location.
Usually, you need to place it in the freezer for at least 2 hours which is why people often by a second ice pack so as to allow more frequent ice therapy as you exchange ice packs in the freezer back and forth.
What is about the Revitalice system that makes it unique over other similar products that cost less?
Two things: First, the ice pack gel chemistry is uniquely blended to get colder and stay colder than conventional ice packs while the specially designed geometric shape focuses cold directly where it is needed for a deeper and longer lasting benefit. The second benefit is our first of its kind strap and belt system which allows you to comfortably secure the ice pack to virtually any location on your body that requires ice therapy. The belt and strap system can be attached in any orientation imaginable due to the entire one side of the ice pack being constructed of “loop” fabric.
In a nutshell Ice therapy shrinks tissue that has become inflamed as the result of strain or injury or just pain caused by the aging process. Shrinking the tissue at the source is much more immediately effective than taking over the counter anti-inflammatory medicines such as Ibuprofen. Reducing inflammation or shrinking membranes with cold therapy can reduce the pain feedback loop we experience when injury occurs.
Most ice packs cover a larger area than the actual injury location on your body. This means you are applying cold therapy to places that are not benefitting. Secondly, other ice packs while larger in overall area are usually thinner in thickness. The result in they cover a larger area while not staying cold as long. Our ice packs provide the opposite…a smaller more focused area that stays cold longer resulting in actually providing the cold benefit at the place needed and longer.
We do not recommend heat therapy for our ice packs. We purposefully focused our design energy on constructing a well-made, long lasting, ice therapy solution. Generic bags that do both just don’t work as good.
Your typical physical therapists and chiropractors will tell you do it up to 3 times daily. We recommend much more than that. Basically, our experience is the more you apply ice therapy, the faster resolution of pain can be achieved. It comes down to doing it as many times as practical throughout the day leaving 30 minutes to an hour between sessions.
We designed the ice pack to be able to place directly against your skin which provides the greatest cold therapy benefit. The material in contact with the skin (the blue side) is a specialty non-woven fabric designed to interface directly against your skin. But often times, people feel a lightweight fabric helps them to address any cold shock that one naturally feels when placing something cold directly against the body. Just remember, the more fabric between the ice pack and the area requiring ice therapy, the lesser the benefit.
Most freezers today are set to about 4 degrees Fahrenheit. Our gel chemistry allows our ice packs to reach that temperature. Regular ice cubes only get down to about 32 degrees Fahrenheit. So, the colder Revitalice ice packs reach deeper into the body tissue and last longer than regular ice resulting in significantly superior cold therapy.
We recommend a bundle such as the ice pack and 24” universal strap (part no. B1301) along with the ice pack and medium/L waist belt bundle (part no B1202). These two bundles together get you 2 ice packs, the lower back belt, and the shortest universal strap all with free freight. Some people choose to add the neck strap (part no. 1101) to complete the package. These all together get you pretty much everywhere that you may find the need for ice therapy. Often, people start out more conservatively with just one bundle (part no. B1301) and then add to it a later date if needed.
It is a proprietary blend of water, specialty chemicals, and gel agents that are all non-toxic. We have developed and tested the proprietary formula to provide the coldest possible temperature from the freezer while remaining pliable.
